Putting the star on top!
Adopt-A-Family

Everyone loves the holidays, full of love, time with family, good food and presents!! But what about families that might not be able to afford the luxuries of the holidays? Each fall the Club adopts a needy family. At Thanksgiving, all the necessities for a traditional meal are provided for the family. A few weeks later, a Christmas tree is brought in, along with presents for the children. There's nothing as rewarding as seeing kids put up a tree and open presents!

Look at all those boxes!!
Operation Christmas Child

Each year, Samaritan's purse sends out shoeboxes to needy children across the world. Club members are able to pack shoeboxes with sanitary items and toys to be sent out to boys and girls who otherwise would not know the meaning of Christmas!

Take Back the Night
The Take Back the Night March and Rally is held to promote sexual assault and domestic violence awareness, prevention, and safety on our campus and in the community. This is the 18th year NC State has held a Take Back the Night rally. The evening promotes awareness of rape and sexual assault and looks at prevention and safety.

Carolina Troops Supporters 5K
This was a national event and the third year that it had ever been held. The objective of the event was to raise scholarship money for children of fallen soldiers, those who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Club served as a corporate sponsor to the event. Club members also raised money and participated in the 5K run. Entertainment after the 5K included a speech from a retired Army general, Miss Teen NC, live bands and BBQ for lunch. The event closed with a tribute to soldiers and 9-11 victims.

Dairy Unit Clean Up
The management of the Dairy Unit at University Field Labs has been very supportive of the Animal Science Club for many years. As a means of giving back to that unit, Club members decided to host a clean-up effort of the dairy grounds on April 24, 2007. Seven members joined the effort to improve the general appearance of the unit by picking up trash, rearranging unused equipment and rearranging the storage areas. The unit management was very appreciative of the Club’s efforts and has agreed to continue to support the Club’s efforts.

Relay for Life
Relay for Life is an overnight event designed to raise money for research and support of program efforts of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. This is the first year the NCSU Animal Science Club has participated in the event.

Naked and Hungry
On Thursday February 8th 2007, the Collegiate FFA Chapter at North Carolina State University held their annual “Naked and Hungry” day. The morning started early with members building a shack to serve as a backdrop for members who roamed the “Brickyard” on campus asking students for donations of clothing, non-perishable food items, and monetary donations. This year the Collegiate 4-H and the NCSU Animal Science Club together gave over 500 cans and 100 items of clothing. Rather than host the event as a sole entity, the Animal Science Club made the decision to support NCSU CFFA with their existing project and helped recognize NCSU as one of the premier collegiate chapters in the CFFA organization.
