Objectives of Circle K
THE MISSION OF CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL
is to involve college and university students in campus and community
service while developing quality leaders and citizens. Circle K
inspires people to better our world. In support of thiswe are commited
to:
- collaborating with all members of the K-family to achieve ourcommon objectives;
- continuing student management of the organization at alllevels;
- developing positive role models;
- enhancing inter-cultural understanding and cooperation;
- increasing our servicepotential;
- working toward greater public recognition of the organization;
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
Circle
K International will provide a variety of experiences tohelp you
realize your leadership potential. As a member of yourCircle K club,
you will be called upon to share your unique talentsto enhance your
club's outreach. Your involvement in Circle KInternational will have a
significant impact on the campus, community, and world. As a dedicated
Circle K'er you will develop lifetime friendships, establish a career
network with Kiwanians, and apply individual skills to various settings.
Your active involvement in Circle K is demonstrated throughyour participation in service projects, prompt payment of membershipdues, attendance at club meetings and social activities, and involvement with your club's ongoing leadership development and educational programs. Active membership is maintained through the expectations as further defined by your club.
The dues that you pay to your club, the district and the International levels are vital to the operation of Circle K International. These dues pay for a portion of the administrative budgets and the district and International governing boards of Circle K International. As a dues paying member in Circle K International you will receive five issues of Circle K Magazine, a handbook, a member pin and a membership card.
Also, membership in Circle K offers you:
- the opportunity to compete for scholarships
- the opportunity to attend the International Experiences Leadership Institute (IELI), a weekend-long training program for club leaders aswell as district and regional training conferences
- participation in the annual District and International Conventions
- recognition programs that reward dedicated members and provide proff of achievement to prospective employers (Applications for the Society of DistinguishedCollegians and Service Recognition Award are available from your clubpresident each fall)
- experienced counseling from district and International officers
- access fo resource information designed to promote membership recruitment, publicrelations, and leadership training.
SERVICE PROGRAMS OF CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL
The Service Initiative is designed to unify the service efforts of CircleK'ers around the world. The Service Initiative, Focusing on theFuture: Children,
was designed to educate all Circle K members aboutthe problems and
issues that face children ages 6-13 worldwide. Throughpersonal
interaction and public awareness, Circle K members will enablechildren
to develop the skills and ideals necessary to be successful. AsCircle K
International focuses on the future, it is committed toaccomplishing
the following:
- Involving each Circle K member in 10 hours of community service tobenefit children ages 6-13
- Collaborating with other student organizations by having each clubco-sponsor one service project that supports the Circle K InternationalService Initiative
- Raising enough money to help four million people in the prevention ofIodine Deficiency Disorders
- Having each club sponsor one activity to educate the campus about theworldwide problem of Iodine DeficiencyDisorders
The Worldwide Service Project: Members of the K-family haveunited for the first ever Worldwide Service Project, to fight Iodine DeficiencyDisorders (IDD). By raising $75 million by the summer of 1998, theK-family will make its mark on history by virtually eliminating theworld's leading preventable cause of mental retardation.
Circle K members have raised over $100,000 for the cause and havepledged to raise a total of $200,000 by August, 1998. Clubs have savedpennies for Penny Wars, Trick or Treated for IDD, held car washes, dancemarathons, and provided their campuses and communities with educationalprogramming about IDD, the plague of many third world nations.
Our funds are being used to provide iodized oil tablets to children,educate the public and government officials about the need for iodine, andbuild salt iodization plants in foreign countries.

The K-Family is comprised of four major organizations:
- Kiwanis International: Business and professional leaders
- Circle K International: College Students
- Key Club International: High School Students
- Builders Club: Junior high and middle school students
- Aktion Club
- K-Kids
Like Circle K International, Key Club International and Builders Club arealso Sponsored Programs of Kiwanis International. All branches of theK-family work to accomplish the same goals and objectives. As the fourorganizations coordinate their service endeavors within the community, theimpace they can make together is tremendous. Circle K'ers, in workingwith area Key Clubs and Builders Clubs, can facilitate their club'smembership recruitment in years to come. Circle K'ers should be activecontributors to the K-family relationship.

- To emphasize the advantages of the democratic way of life;
- To provide the opportunity for leadership training in service;
- To serve on the campus and in the community;
- To cooperate with the administrative officers of the educationalinstitutions of which the clubs are a part;
