Service
Just a few of the service projects we have participated in:
| Habitat for Humanity | We work side by side with other NCSU students and future homeowners to create adequate, affordable housing in the Raleigh area. |
| Methodist Home for Children | We help with the Methodist Home's annual Christmas Party by serving as elves or helping to serve food and entertain the kids. We have also donated toys for the party. |
| Boys and Girls Club | We sponsor an annual Haunted House in October for the children and their families to provide a safe option for Halloween. |
| Ronald McDonald House | We go at least once per semester and cook breakfast for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House, who are children and their families being treated at Duke Medical Center. This is their “home away from home” during treatment and they stay there for a small fee. |
| Service Raleigh | Service Raleigh is a massive community service event occuring in the greater Raleigh area, consisting of a day of service organized entirely by the Park Scholars and Student Government of NC State University. |
| Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities | We help the Tammy Lynn Center by volunteering for their annual Toast to the Triangle event. We help prepare mass mailings of event information, help distribute brochures about the event to local businesses, and we help at the even itself by helping with tickets, registering volunteers, assisting with vendor booths, and cleaning up tables. |
| Operation Toybox | Operation Toybox, founded in 1995, is a non-profit organization that provides joy for the youngest disaster victims... i.e. they give toys to children! They get toys from all over the US and Canada, get help from volunteers to clean and pack the toys, and then send them to places that have disasters like floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. They also provide kid kits for the American Red Cross in NC and SC to take to children who's homes have been destroyed by fire. |
| Food Bank of Raleigh | We have collected cans and other food for the Food Bank and then taken it all there and helped put it in the correct place for distribution. We have also helped bag sweet potatoes and sorted donated food into useable and unusable items. |
| Carnivore Preservation Trust | We have helped by taking down old cages, helping to build new cages, and cleaning up sites for future cages at this refuge for large carnivores in Pittsboro, NC. |
| Relay for Life | We have assisted the Highwoods Kiwanis club by walking for this event, which helps raise money for the American Cancer Society. |
| Recreate State | This is a project to clean up and beautify NCSU's campus. Many NCSU clubs are involved in the effort. |
| Animal Shelter | We help the Wake County Animal Shelter with preparing the animals (dogs and cats) for adoption. This includes giving them exercise and bathing them before they're taken home. We also help the customers choose a pet to adopt. We have also helped keep the shelter in good condition by cleaning cages, washing dishes, doing laundry, and organizing the storage area. We also helped with their Santa Paws event this past Christmas and their PAWS for Companion Animals event in September. |
| Victory Junction Gang Camp | We've been very active in raising money for this free summer camp for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. This camp is part of the Hole in the Wall Gang camps and is race-car themed. We have raised over $1000 for the camp and will be working to help provide digital camera equipment for the arts center in the coming year. |
