Thank you to all who attended the 2012 NC State Clogging Challenge!

North Carolina State University's Clogging team began in 1989 under the direction of Marsha Lester. The team’s first performance was at a women’s basketball game in Reynold’s Coliseum. From that point on, the team began its long journey of success as a recognized organization on campus. The team currently competes under the American Clogging Hall of Fame and has traveled to many places (local and international) to perform and compete winning numerous awards. In addition to competition, the team has been very dedicated to community service in Raleigh and surrounding areas.

New to Clogging? Clogging developed from aspects of English, Irish, German, and Cherokee step dances, as well as African rhythms and movement. It was from clogging that tap dance eventually segregated and evolved. Modern competitive clogging is inspired by traditional styles along with new age dance styles and is performed to a wide variety of music, including bluegrass, modern country, rock, pop and hip hop. Today clogging has several sanctioning bodies that oversee competitions held throughout the United States, with the majority located in the southeastern states. These high-energy styles have opened the forum to a wide audience.
Clogging is the official state folk dance of North Carolina and Kentucky!
