The Birth of KO

During the 1973-74 academic year at North Carolina State University, Gayla Taylor began to question as to why there were no Alpha Kappa Alpha women on campus. In the spring of 1975, after months of investigation and assistance from the Alpha Theta Omega Chapter, Gayla Taylor was initiated as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The following academic year several young women expressed interest in becoming members of the Sorority. On April 27, 1976, the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the North Carolina State University campus.
