to the Beta Chapter of the National Communication Honors Society. Lambda
Pi Eta is the official communication studies honorary of the National
Communication Association
and is an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
The N.C. State chapter, the second in the nation, was founded in 1985.
Since that time, more than 300 chapters have been founded at colleges
and universities across the nation.
The
purposes of Lambda Pi Eta are:
•To
recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in
communication studies.
•To stimulate interest in the field of communication.
•To promote and encourage professional development among communication
majors.
•To provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in
the field of communication.
•To establish and maintain closer relationships/mutual understanding
between communication studies faculty and students.
•To explore options for graduate education in communication
studies.
In order
to be considered for membership, you must meet all
of the following requirements:
•Complete
60 semester credit-hours (90 quarter credit-hours).
•Have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses
taken.
•Have at least a 3.25 GPA for all communication studies courses
complete the equivalent of 12 semester credit-hours (18 quarter credit-hours)
in communication studies.
•Currently be enrolled as a student in good standing, as determined
by N.C. State policies.
•Display commitment to the field of communication.
•Exhibit high standards of personal and professional character
and support the purposes of the honor society.
Membership is by invitation only. Each semester, the
president receives the eligibility lists from Registration and Records.
Within the next 30 days, a welcome letter and membership application
are sent to each eligible student. If you have a privacy block
on your records, you may not receive an invitation. If you believe
that you should have received an invitation and you have not, please
contact both the
chapter president and faculty
advisor.
Should you choose to join Lambda Pi Eta, you are responsible
for submitting your one-time membership fee to the treasurer not less
than 45 days before the end of the semester. Failure to do so may
result in your ineligibility to participate in the semester's induction
ceremony. To graduate with a Lambda Pi Eta Honor Cord or Service Cord, you
must earn at least 12 or 18 merit points, respectively, and be an active member for two semesters
(not necessarily consecutive). Points are accumulated by attending meetings or participating in group events and community service projects.
