SERVICE
One of the goals of the society is
to promote service and scholarship in the community. In order to
accomplish this goal, we provide scholastic assistance to our fellow engineering
students and promote interest in the sciences and engineering in nearby
K-12 schools. As the centennial anniversary of the Wright Brothers'
First Flight draws near, SGT members are proud to represent NC State and
the accomplishments this university has made to continue the study and
understanding of flight.
TUTORING
For the AE students,
we will provide biweekly tutoring sessions in the student lounge starting
Spring 2002.
TEST DATABASE
We have assembled
a test database for the aerospace classes. The tests are made available
to all students in the student lounge. Students are permitted to
borrow the tests for photocopying and are then asked to promptly return
the test to the database.
FLIGHT SYMPOSIUM
We volunteered
at the International Flight Symposium on October 22-25, 2001 by helping
to prepare the banquet hall, direct traffic, and generally represent our
university, department, and program.
COMMUNITY
OUTREACH
Two of our members, Erin Henderson and Erin Whitley, participated in a
Career Day held at Ligon GT Magnet
Middle School in Raleigh, NC. They discussed and answered questions
about careers in the aerospace engineering field.
On April 6th, The NCSU Chapter of Sigma Gamma Tau participated
in Service Raleigh, an annual one-day service event organized by the NCSU
Park scholars.
Our last outreach for the year took part at Fred Olds Elementary school,
where we built and flew rockets together with 50 3rd-grade students.
We still can't decide who enjoyed this event the most...the 3rd
grade kids or the college students....
