Samantha Spady was a vibrant young woman who died from alcohol poisoning at the Sigma Pi chapter at Colorado State University in September of 2004. Her mother has since made it her mission, not to stop students from drinking, as that is next to impossible, but to raise awareness of the signs of alcohol poisoning. Through increased awarness, Mrs. Spady hopes that lives will be saved and other parents will not have to suffer through losing a child to something so preventable. Rho Chapter met with Mrs. Spady when she was at NC State doing a presentation when we got the idea of doing something to raise money for her foundation, The Sam Spady Foundation. At that moment, Skate for Sam was born. On February 18, in conjuction with the Garner Ice House, we are holding a charity skating event where the Garner Ice House is giving us half of the admissions to donate directly back to the foundation.
