The mission of Habitat for Humanity is not to end substandard housing. It is to provide a group of people with a strong, deeply rooted community. This process is only started when we build houses for somebody. Education is also a giant part of our mission at Habitat for Humanity.
This is why we take groups of about 15 volunteers down to the Boy's and Girl's Clubs of Raleigh every Tuesday and Thursday to tutor. After getting there we spend about and hour and a half tutoring elementary and middle school children in everything from basic math to history to reading and writing. No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome to come and join us.
If you are interested in finding out more about our tutoring program or how you can volunteer, please contact Stephanie Ngan or Tim Stewart. If you are already signed up for the listserve, then just keep an eye out for our weekly email every Sunday.
