Nearly every Saturday, including over the summer, we send a crew of 12-15 student volunteers to work on a house. We work closely with Wake County Habitat for Humanity to ensure that we consistently have a house to work on. They have done a great job of supplying us with essential work.
And once we are at the worksite, you will find that there is always something that needs to get done. The day might start off slowly, but that always picks up. Once you get out on the worksite, time will tend to fly by rather quickly.
Our normal workday begins at 8 AM Saturday morning behind the Student Health Center. We meet here and take a quick role call to ensure everybody has made it. Then we carpool out to our house and begin working. Typically, workdays last until 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
You do not need any prior skill or training in order to come out and volunteer on the worksite. You don't even need tools (they're provided by Wake County Habitat and us). The only thing you need to bring, besides yourself, is a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
If you would like more information about workdays, please consult our works project officers. They can provide you with all of the information you will need to know about workdays.
