LUG "Installfest"

Installfests are when we work together as a club to help people install and update Linux. We can shrink Windows, reinstall windows, and help set up a dual-boot. Also, if you have recently installed Linux, and have any questions or remaining problems, we can help fix those as well.

Installfests are usually held once per semester. They are held on Saturdays starting around 10:00 AM.

Be sure to defragment your hard drive at least twice before you come, three times if possible, if you have another OS installed that requires defragmenting (Any Microsoft Windows variant). It is typically a good idea to disable "swapping" (sometimes referred to as virtual memory) altogether before running the defragmenting tool, and to leave it disabled until after Linux is installed.

Available Distributions

Linux is available in several different versions, or distributions, and with different desktop environments. This ability to make your Linux what you want it is part of the power and allure of the operating system. We will have the more popular options (marked with a *) available already on CD at the Installfest, but we can always download another option if you want to try it.
