Section 6: Auditions for Majorettes

Each year majorette tryouts will be held at the end of the Spring Semester. There will be at least 2 judges. Neither judge can be a teacher for any of the majorette candidates. Previous NC State Majorettes must attend tryouts. The coach will work with everyone to accommodate schedules. New candidates will be given flexibility depending on their situation. Tryouts will consist of each twirler performing a routine to music of their choice. Their twirling routine will be judged in three different categories: Showmanship, Difficulty and Technique. Penalties will be deducted for drops, falls and fumbles. Points (i.e., percentages) for each category go as follows:

Difficulty & Routine Content 40pts

Technique 30pts

Showmanship/Presentation 30pts

---------------------------------

Total 100pts

---------------------------------

Penalties:

Fall 2pts

Each Drop 1pt

Each Fumble .5pts

Tryouts will involve more than presentation of twirling abilities. Each majorette candidate will be judged in the following additional categories:

1. Teamwork,

2. Academic Goals,

3. Previous Experience.

Throughout tryouts the coach and assistant will monitor practice to evaluate each candidate's ability to work as a team and the learning of new material. For majorettes with previous experience, 25% of your tryout will reflect from your previous season. Focus will be on: practice ethic, responsibility, performances, attitude. The number of majorettes will be determined at the time of tryouts.

Overall percentages go as follows:

Interview: 25%

Teamwork: 25%

Tryout Routine: 50% (new majorette) 25% (current majorette)

Previous Experience: 25% (current majorette)
