Congratulations to Raleigh Charter for winning the first Red and White Bowl! Raleigh Charter and Cary Academy's A and B teams earned the 4 bids to the National Tournament, so congratulations!

The Quiz Bowl Club at North Carolina State University is pleased to invite your team to the 2006 N.C. State High School Tournament, titled "The Red and White Bowl," scheduled for March 18, 2006 at N.C. State University.

This tournament will use NAQT questions (packet IS-57A), and will serve as an unofficial NAQT event. As such, the top 15% of the field will qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship, to be held June 2-4, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois.

The field will be broken up into three brackets, and each bracket will play a round-robin format. We expect to have at least 21 teams in the tournament, so each bracket will have at least 7 teams, and each team will be guaranteed at least six matches in the bracketed round-robin format. In addition, the top eight teams (number is subject to change) will advance to a seeded single elimination playoff.

Each match will consist of 2 un-timed halves, with each half consisting of 10 buzzer tossup questions. Players who first answer a question correctly will reward his/her team with 10 pts, and will give his/her team the opportunity to answer a set of bonus questions totaling 30 pts. Questions come from the major academic categories (literature, science, history, fine arts, geography, mythology, religion, social science), in addition to popular culture, sports and general knowledge.

We will begin registration at 8:15 a.m. and will hold a mandatory meeting for teams at 8:45 a.m. Rounds will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue through the morning and early afternoon with a lunch break scheduled at noon. We expect to finish this event no later than 6:00 p.m.

The fee structure is as follows:
Registration fees may be mailed in advance (with the registration sheet) or paid at the tournament. Checks should be made payable to "NCSU Quiz Bowl"
