Q: If I am a member of SCAVMA, am I also a member of SAVMA?
A: Yes. Members of individual school Student Chapters of the AVMA are automatically members of the Student AVMA. You have a SAVMA membership number and should have received a membership card; please contact the SCAVMA Secretary if you need this number and do not have it.
Q: When can I apply for funding?
A: Funding application cycles occur once per semester, usually within the first 4 weeks of the semester. You will receive an email from the SCAVMA treasurer at the beginning of each semester with information regarding funding applications and the due date for that semester.
Q: How does funding work for the SAVMA Symposium?
A: In order to be eligible for 100% funding for the SAVMA Symposium, you must donate 2 items to the fall SCAVMA/NCVC Auction and 2 items to the spring SAVMA Auction. The SCAVMA points for these items go directly to your eligibility for the SAVMA Symposium ONLY, and do not add to your SCAVMA point total for other funding applications. If you donate more than 2 items to either auction and attend the SAVMA Symposium, any items in excess of the required 4 items will accumulate SCAVMA points in the normal manner.
Q: Do my SCAVMA points get "used up" when I apply for funding?
A: No. As a 1st-3rd year, you are eligible to use SCAVMA points earned during the previous 2 semesters, regardless of whether those points have already figured into previous funding applications. As a 4th year, you are eligible to use all SCAVMA points earned during your 4 years. The only exception to this rule applies to students attending the annual SAVMA Symposium in March (see above).
Q: How much of my requested funds am I likely to get?
A: Your funding award will be related to 2 factors: (1) the number of SCAVMA points you have, and (2) the amount that SCAVMA has available to budget for student travel in the semester for which you are applying. See "Funding and Points" to see the relationship between SCAVMA points and funding eligibility. SCAVMA makes every effort to provide students as much of their eligible funding as possible. However, if funding requests exceed the SCAVMA budget, all funding awards will be "scaled down" in a consistent manner to ensure fair funding awards.
Q: Does participation in club events earn me SCAVMA points?
A: No. While participation in club activities may earn you points within individual clubs, only official SCAVMA events can earn SCAVMA points. Please see "Funding and Points" for a list of SCAVMA activities where you can earn SCAVMA points. Please note that while the Dog Day Run (spring semester) is a SCAVMA event, the Dog Olympics (fall semester) is a SCAAHA club event.
Q: What does SCAVMA do specificaly for the other clubs at NCSU?
A: SCAVMA functions as an umbrella organization for the clubs at NCSU, providing logistical and financial support to other student organizations. SCAVMA:
- Organizes annual club registration and dues collection
- Maintains a semester calendar of club events, wetlabs, and bake sales
- Assigns lunch meeting dates to clubs/companies
- Maintains and sells club merchandise through the SCAVMA merchandise store
- Offers group travel and group event funding for club activities
- Provides storage space and office supply support to clubs through the SCAVMA office

Q: What are some examples of things that SCAVMA is NOT responsible for?
A: SCAVMA is NOT responsible for:
- Assigning bulletin board space or mailbox space
- Constructing or maintaining individual club websites
- Setting up or maintaining club bank accounts, or filing club taxes
- Regulating the type or amount of merchandise sold by individual clubs
- Actions or product giveaways by student company representatives
