The Organization

Profile

The description of our organization on SORC is pretty broad because a huge part of WESA revolves around the importance of many different kinds of activities and ideas.

We're listed as a service organization, but could also been seen as an academic organization...(We plan to host an environmental job fair to assist with professional development and provide opportunities for students in similar degree programs to interact)...

...or even a social action group...(We want to educate our fellow students and staff, Raleigh citizens, etc. on the importance of issues such as recycling and energy conservation so they can make changes in their everyday lives).

Environmental issues are complex, and we recognize that solutions must come from a collaboration of sources, so we want to get everyone--students studying economics and journalism and public relations (and science, too!), professors from all backgrounds, local businesses, state agencies, alumni from all parts of the country and in foreign ones--involved. So that means YOU!

As you may see, our possibilities are nearly limitless. Help us out by joining today!

History

The Wolfpack Environmental Student Association (WESA) was founded and officially registered with the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) in the summer of 2007 by the inaugural officers: Abraham Sutfin (President), Sarah Dombrose (Vice-President), Catherine Frock (Secretary), and Chris Doerner (Treasurer) and faculty advisor, Dr. William Winner. The idea for such an organization came about through conversations held in the spring semester of 2007 regarding a sincere need and desire for change in the university's approach to environmental-related issues, particularly the academic curriculum. After researching similar groups registered with SORC in the past, the founders decided that an appropriate outlet for students concerned with environment- and sustainability-related topics did not currently exist, and resolved to form an enduring organization to address this need.

In its first year as an organization, WESA grew into one of the largest student groups on the NCSU campus, with over 200 members from all stages of academic careers and from almost every college subscribing to its mailing list.
