KEEN Ambassador at NCSU: Steven Squires

Stand UP, OUT and FOR Sustainability Campaign:
In the fall of 2007, KEEN Footwear will be encouraging people across the country to submit their innovative, executable ideas that support sustainability. KEEN has set aside $150,000 to encourage creative, adventurous, caring people whose ideas and actions can help us all reduce our ecological footprint.

The primary emphasis of the campaign is a nationwide tour to 50 college campuses, where students will be introduced to KEEN’s vision, hear stories of exemplary practitioners and be invited to submit their own ideas to KEEN’s website. The collected proposals will be reviewed over the winter, announced in the spring, and the entire campaign will culminate in a summer solstice celebration in 2008.

They have assembled a panel of judges who will review and reward ideas within three categories:
• Stand Up – for creative individuals who communicate the value of sustainability
• Stand Out – for adventurous people who play in a sustainable way
• Stand For – for innovative actions that care for people and the environment

On each campus a student ambassador will lead the advertising effort to build awareness about the campaign. This advertising campaign will include the following:
• Placing posters
• Passing out informational cards
• Student newspaper and radio ads
• Talking with interested student groups and professors

The ad campaign will end with a campus film screening and presentation in mid–Fall. The film is a short documentary about 9 individuals who took the initiative with their creative sustainable idea and found a way to implement that idea. Following the film, a KEEN representative will be available to facilitate a Q and A about the campaign and about environmental issues.

STAND Documentary
Wednesday, Oct. 3rd, 7:00-9:00pm in Poe Hall, Room 216
Guest Speaker: Mark Singleton of American Whitewater. FREE t-shirt and keychain when you attend. RAFFLE for some prizes. Sign a Traveling Mosaic to show support.
