It's About the Vision and the Will: An Environmental Woman among Engineering Men
Julie Timm Hunt, AICP, CEP

Thursday, March 20th, 6 pm, 322 Mann Hall on NCSU campus. Refreshments will be served.

Ms. Timm will provide a two part talk starting with her perspectives on her career advancements as a woman with an environmental background assuming management roles in engineering firms. The second part of her talk will introduce her specialty, NEPA, and will overview an Environmental Assessment for a coastal protection/restoration project currently underway on Ocracoke Island. Throughout the talk, Ms. Timm will show through personal and project experience how using the strengths of vision and will lead to success.

Ms. Timm has a BS and MS in Biology (Old Dominion University). She currently leads the NEPT practice and Air Quality ininitiative at Moffatt & Nichol, and engineering firm specializing in Port, Coastal, Transportation, and Urban Waterfront Engineering. Ms. Timm is the President of the NC Triangle Chapter of the Woman's Transportation Seminar, Legislative Committee Chair of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association, Committee Member for the Annual ACEC/NC/DOT Conference, Annual Essay Judge for the NC and VA State Future Cities Competition, Chairman and President of the Triangle Bushin Kan Dojo (a local 501c3 Martial Arts Studio), Lead Aikido Instructor, Bellydancer with Belly Revelations, and Student of the UNC-Chapel Hill Core Health Concepts Certificate Program. Most importantly, Ms. Timm is a single mother with the vision and will to make the world a better place for her 3 1/2 year old son. Every one of her pursuits is dedicated to that goal.

Water Conservation using Rain Barrels

Thursday, May 8th, 6 pm, 2840 Sterling Park Drive, Raleigh, 27603.

This workshop will help you learn how to use rain barrels to conserve water in the Triangle. You will learn how to make cost effective rain barrels, and we will also discuss installation and techniques to make your barrel look more appealing.

Space is limited, so preference is given to WWiS members. The cost is $10 (inclusive of supplies and 30 gallon barrel) for members, $15 for general university public. 55 gallon barrels will be available for an additional $5. Cost is $5 for those who choose to supply their own barrel.
