The 2006 9th Annual Zoology and Botany Graduate Student Symposium
will be held on Friday, March 24th!

Talley Student Center Blue Room 8:00-3:30

Update: 3/20--Schedule is available here!!

Reception will follow at 4pm at Nick and Kathryn Haddad's house at 406 Brooks Ave.

Annual graduate student symposia are a hallmark of the finest graduate programs in the nation and an important component of the graduate school experience. The Graduate Student Symposium provides an opportunity for graduate students to exchange scientific ideas, practice presenting research, interact with the scientific community, and fulfill your scientific responsibility of communicating research to the public—all in a friendly and supportive environment.

Students are encouraged to present your work (oral presentation or poster) no matter what stage you have reached in your graduate career. If you have only questions and hypotheses, you may receive valuable input on your study design. If you have collected and analyzed data, you can practice defending your scientific arguments.

This is an all day event that starts at about 8:00 and continues until 3:30. Breakfast and lunch are provided, and the event finishes with a reception at the house of Nick and Kathryn Haddad in the early evening (406 Brooks Ave).

Awards providing money for travel to professional meetings are given for the best MS talk, the best PhD talk, and the best poster in each department.

If you are interested in giving a talk or a poster please submit your proposed title by Wednesday, February 22nd. We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s request, but there are only slots for approximately 15 talks. For those presenting or giving a poster, final abstracts will be due Monday, March 13th.

Submit titles for talks/poster, questions, or comments to:

Becky Hylton, Zoology Graduate Symposium Coordinator

Caitlin Elam, Botany Graduate Symposium Coordinator
